Have you heard the expression “If you build it they will come” made famous by the movie Field of Dreams, starring Kevin Kevin Costner? … Well, its a lie.
A common expectation we get from our clients when building new websites is that when the website development is complete they believe that hundreds or even thousands of new clients will come flooding through the door without any need for additional marketing.
The truth is that after your website development is finished you need to maximise exposure and get that traffic flowing. According to Netcraft’s Website, there are well over 1 billion websites online today with thousands being added on a daily basis, its easy to see how by simply adding your website to this growing list it can just get lost.
It’s not all doom and gloom and there is light at the end of the tunnel. Below we have highlighted three FREE must-do tasks for you to implement and start getting some quality traffic to you website.
1. Backlinks
The most tried and tested way to generate more traffic that is proven to work is to show the search engines that your existing website is trustworthy is by having other external websites link back to your website.
It’s important to note that backlinks carry weight, and not all backlinks are created equal.
As an example; If you have twenty backlinks from low-quality websites that in themselves have very little traffic versus only one backlink from a high-quality website with a lot of traffic, the one quality backlink is worth much, much more then the twenty low-quality combined.
2. Set up a Google My Business account
Setting up a Google My Business account is not an option if you are serious about getting some traffic to your website.
You can register all your company and website details for free, add pictures, include promotional offers. Setting up a Goole My Business account will greatly increase your website and company visibility online. Google even provides directions to your location, and they allow customers to visit your website or call you right from inside the search results.
3. Encourage customers to leave you online reviews
Online reviews will increase your footprint online. Think about this, if your business is listed next to one of your competitors and you have 25 positive reviews and your competition has none, what do link do you think your customer will click on?
